Record tree pollen counts in Raleigh 🤧
The city of Raleigh experienced an unprecedented surge in pollen levels over the past week, reaching heights not witnessed in more than ten years, as indicated by data compiled by state authorities.
Data: N.C. Division of Air Quality; Chart: Erin Davis/Axios Visuals
The broader context reveals that climate change and the advent of warmer spring seasons are the driving forces behind this phenomenon. Plants are now producing higher concentrations of pollen over extended periods, according to Kelly Oten, an assistant professor and extension specialist at the College of Natural Resources at North Carolina State University, who shared this insight last year.
