🏃 Dogs want you to read this

And plenty for humans to read as well :)

Good afternoon, Raleigh. Today would normally be the first day of March but Julius Caesar had an idea in 46 BC and now we have leap years.

In today’s Raleigh Rundown:

  • Popular local theatre is bankrupt

  • Public dog parks in Raleigh

  • Things to do in Raleigh this weekend

Let’s get to it. 🏃

Stories this week

North Carolina Theatre seeks bankruptcy with millions in debt 🎭

North Carolina Theatre (NCT) has suspended all performances until further notice and has filed for bankruptcy.

According to its chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, NCT claims to have just under $205,000 in assets and more than $2.1 million in debts.

NCT board chair John Zaloom said, “We had rising cost and we couldn’t raise funds to keep up with that and part of that was having to get back on track with sponsorships and theater-goers. Meanwhile, the costs were going up and we had debt already that was hanging over us. It was just more than we could catch up to.”

Trump, Harris, and Haley to visit North Carolina ahead of primary on March 5 🇺🇸

Vice President Harris will visit Durham on Friday, former President Trump will be in Greensboro on Saturday, and GOP candidate Nikki Haley will be in Charlotte on Friday and Raleigh on Saturday.

Haley is scheduled for a rally at Clouds Brewing Tap Room at 12:30 PM on Saturday here in Raleigh.

Raleigh-Cary ranked second best place in the country to work for women in tech 👩‍💻

CoWorking Café, an organization monitoring coworking spaces, discovered that the number of female tech workers in the area underwent nearly a 50 percent shift from 2018 to 2022.

"It's a really big deal to be among these tech hubs in terms of this ranking," said Carolina Women in Tech - Raleigh Chair Emily Maxie. "The act that we're in the South and you would think that the South might be a little further behind some of these cities."

The latest State of Technology Report for North Carolina indicates that in 2022, the tech industry employed over 300,000 individuals, generating approximately $40 billion in income for workers.

Local Business Spotlight

Oak City Customs is a fabrication company specializing in woodworking, metal working, custom furnishings, and custom projects of all sizes, serving both commercial and residential clients. One of the main things that makes Oak City Customs unique is our ability to transform urban lumber into heirloom quality furnishings.

Through this 'Tree to Table' process we utilize our sawmill, lumber drying kilns, and industrial woodworking equipment to give urban trees a new life. Some of our favorite items to make are dining and conference tables, signs, and architectural metalwork.

I (Dylan Dodson) connected with Dylan Selinger (owner) and toured the Oak City Customs shop, and both the company and its products are the real deal. You won’t be disappointed in your final product.

Head to OakCityCustoms.com if you’d like to connect further regarding any of their services.
